The Atlanta Hawks have taken the league by storm. In a series many expected to be non-competitive, they’ve flipped the script, rallying after a Game 1 loss to take two straight by simply out-executing the New York Knicks in late-game situations. Hawks fans might even have Mike Brown and Mikal Bridges to thank for some of those key moments. The market has reacted fast on FanDuel; Atlanta went from +25000 to win the Finals after Game 1 to +10000 today.

For the Knicks, the issues are starting to look familiar. All season long, there’s been a lack of clear role definition for star big man Karl-Anthony Towns. Late in games, especially last night, he repeatedly found himself with smaller defenders switched onto him, yet couldn’t get the ball in those spots. It’s been a recurring problem, tied to a mix of his own mindset, coaching decisions, and teammates failing to recognize those mismatches. On top of this, the guy the Knicks traded five first-round picks for had 0 points and was a -26 (Mikal Bridges). The Knicks did not even get a shot up on the last possession of the game trailing by 1.

Now the pressure shifts back to New York. The Knicks are currently 1.5-point favorites heading into the next game, but everyone knows how pivotal this spot is; falling behind 3-1 would essentially end the series. And if they do lose, the fallout would be massive, especially after moving on from Tom Thibodeau following an Eastern Conference Finals run just a year ago.
