This season, I’m kicking things off with a Dinger of the Day series highlighting my favorite home run matchup on the board.
Today’s Pick: Christian Walker (Houston Astros)
The Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox are expected to be two of the better teams heading into the 2026 season. However, their consensus odds to win the World Series suggest they are strong contenders, but not among the very top tier.

To start the year, Walker looks completely dialed in. He’s posting an elite 95.6 mph average exit velocity, a 15.38% barrel rate, and a 58.33% fly ball/line drive rate, all while striking out at just 6.25%. That’s a dangerous combo of contact + power.
He’ll be facing Ranger Suárez, a solid arm but one who has shown vulnerability to right-handed power. Last season, Suárez gave up 10 home runs to righties while allowing a .265 average. I typically don’t put much weight into small sample lifetime numbers, but Christian Walker is 5-for-21 (.238) here, with 4 strikeouts and 5 walks.
Digging deeper into the pitch mix, Walker matches up extremely well. Against Suárez’s three primary pitches (sinker, changeup, cutter), Walker posted expected slugging percentages of:
- .618 vs sinker
- .281 vs changeup
- .711 vs cutter
