Former NBA center Enes Kanter Freedom was ejected from Sunday's WNBA matchup between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky after a heated confrontation with Sky guard Natasha Cloud. Freedom was sitting courtside when Cloud approached him late in the third quarter, pointing and yelling as the situation quickly escalated. Security and Sky players stepped between the two before Freedom was escorted from the arena.
The incident came during an already highly charged atmosphere surrounding Freedom's recent push to enter the WNBA. He attended the game wearing a shirt that read “WOMAN noun. Adult human female,” continuing his outspoken stance on the debate surrounding transgender athletes in women's sports. Freedom recently declared his intention to enter the 2027 WNBA Draft.
According to Freedom, the confrontation began after he celebrated a three-pointer by Fever guard Sophie Cunningham. He claims Cloud then confronted him and made a vulgar remark, though that account has not been independently verified. Cloud has not publicly provided a detailed account of the exchange.
The Fever went on to defeat the Sky 113-90, but the game was largely overshadowed by the courtside incident. Fever coach Stephanie White urged reporters not to give the confrontation additional attention, calling it “a social media thing.”
