Grinding it Out: Nuggets’ Defense Could Be the Key in Game 5
Written by Drew Lee | May 13, 2025
As the series heads into a pivotal Game 5 tied at 2-2, the oddsmakers have set a surprisingly high line for Tuesday night’s clash in Oklahoma City. But don’t let the lopsided score from Game 2 fool you. this series has turned into a physical, grind-it-out battle, and the Denver Nuggets are built for that kind of fight.
After stealing Game 1 on the road with a clutch late-game finish, Denver showed signs of a letdown in Game 2, getting blitzed by the Thunder. But since then, the Nuggets have covered the spread in three of four games and appear to be settling into their defensive rhythm.
Game 4 was a slugfest, with both teams shooting poorly Denver at 31%, Oklahoma City at 35%. But the low numbers tell a deeper story: Denver’s defensive intensity has made every Thunder bucket a battle. Even MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been held to under 40% shooting in the last two contests.
Despite their offensive woes, Denver stayed within the number in Game 4 and showed the kind of grit that comes from championship experience. With their defense tightening and the pressure mounting, the Nuggets look like the side better equipped to weather the moment.
Pick: Denver +10.5 Prediction: Nuggets keep it close in another defensive duel.
