Last night, the Los Angeles Lakers’ makeshift roster was blown out by 36 points by the defending champions, who also hold the league’s best record at 63-16. But the score wasn’t the biggest storyline; it was the sideline behavior of head coach JJ Redick.

Just 2 minutes and 30 seconds into the game, Redick pulled Rui Hachimura, saying he “was not doing his job.” Then, only 16 seconds into the second quarter, he yanked Jarred Vanderbilt, which led to a heated sideline exchange. Redick later described it as “a confluence of things he did wrong,” but tensions clearly boiled over. Vanderbilt confronted Redick before and after the timeout, and words were exchanged. After being held back by teammates and staff, Vanderbilt never returned to the game.

Redick didn’t stop there. In the postgame interview, he took another shot this time at Deandre Ayton, saying, “He’s having trouble catching the ball… I don’t know if that’s the passing or if it’s him trying to get position. He hasn’t been able to catch the ball.” Not exactly the kind of message you want publicly after a loss like that.

Overall, it was a rough night for the Lakers on every level. Between the blowout, internal tension, and injuries to key players like Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves, frustration is clearly building, and it’s starting to spill out in real time. In a time like this, it’s important not to lose your team right before the playoffs start. At the start of the season, the Los Angeles Lakers had real championship buzz, but their Finals odds on FanDuel have collapsed leaving a $100 bet now worth just $6.
