Julio Rodríguez had a night to forget Tuesday, making a bizarre mistake that perfectly summed up the Seattle Mariners' disastrous 22-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. With Milwaukee already leading 19-0 in the eighth inning, Rodríguez caught a routine fly ball from Christian Yelich with the bases loaded and casually threw the ball into the stands. There was just one problem: it was only the second out of the inning.

Because the ball was thrown into the stands, the runners were awarded two bases. The mistake allowed another run to score and pushed Milwaukee's lead to 21-0, before Luis Lara followed with an RBI single to make it 22-0.

The embarrassing moment was just one part of an absolutely brutal night for Seattle. The Mariners had already surrendered 19 runs before Rodríguez's mistake, and Milwaukee's 22 runs tied the Brewers' franchise record for runs in a game. It also tied for the largest shutout victory in the Modern Era.

For Rodríguez, the mistake was particularly painful because it came in a game that was already completely out of hand. Even Yelich offered some perspective afterward, saying, “You lose track of the outs. It just happens sometimes.” Still, Rodríguez will certainly want to forget this one quickly.
