Marina Mabrey delivered one of the greatest scoring performances in WNBA history Thursday night, exploding for 53 points as the Toronto Tempo dominated the Los Angeles Sparks 125-97.

With the performance, Mabrey tied the WNBA single-game scoring record previously set by Liz Cambage in 2018 and matched by A’ja Wilson in 2023. Mabrey was nearly unstoppable from the opening tip, finishing 17-of-28 from the field while knocking down 9 three-pointers and going 10-for-12 from the free throw line in just 32 minutes.

The atmosphere inside the arena became electric late in the game as fans realized history was within reach. When Mabrey checked out with just over a minute remaining, the crowd initially booed the substitution before quickly giving her a standing ovation. As the final seconds ticked away, chants of “We Want Mabrey! We Want Mabrey!” echoed throughout the arena as fans hoped she would return to chase the outright record. After the game, Toronto head coach Sandy Brondello revealed that Mabrey herself decided to come out of the game despite having a chance to break the record alone.

The performance capped off an unbelievable scoring stretch for Mabrey, who has now scored 113 points over her last three games, the most points ever scored in a three-game span in WNBA history.
