Wednesday December 13th
Mid December is the time of year to turn some of our attention over to the NBA, which had a loaded slate Tuesday night. 10 teams were in action, including two TNT games that both came down to the wire.
The petulant Draymond Green was ejected in the third quarter for a spinning right hook to the head of Jusuf Nurkic in yet another example of the raving lunatic costing his team a ballgame. For unknown reasons, the Warriors are constructed in a way they can’t win without Green, and their lead over Phoenix evaporated following his ejection. This behavior has followed Draymond throughout his entire time in the NBA, and his postgame press conference excuses are just as tired. Adam Silver should take a serious look as a long-term suspension as that move doesn’t belong anywhere outside of a UFC Octagon and this is not his first or second or third offense. Without KD, the Suns rally back for a 119-116 Win.
Coming off their banner raising run in the In-Season Tournament, the Lakers came out flat against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks. Despite selling his majority stake in the franchise, Mark Cuban was front and center as usual, to watch his Slovenian Superstar drop 33 points and 17 assists in the victory. Lebron went for 33-9-8 in the defeat, but it wasn’t enough to hang with Dante Exum who gave us a thrilling reminder of his existence. Filling in admirably for Kyrie, who is actually hurt as opposed to refusing play to study conspiracy theories, the former 1st round pick knocked down seven 3-pointers on his way to 26 points. The Mavs continue to roll to start the year with a tight 127-125 victory.
Speaking of rolling, the Celtics are 11-0 at the TD Banknorth FleetCenter Boston Garden after shaking off a slow start to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers. After falling behind 25-10 in the 1st Quarter, the C’s rode a balanced attack to erase a deficit before taking control in the 4th. Donovan Mitchell played well, but 25 from Brown and Tatum, 21 from Porzingis, and 17 from D White was too difficult to compete with. When healthy, this Celtics team looks like the team to beat in the NBA. However, the when healthy part remains to be seen, with this being KP’s first game back after missing a couple weeks. Any team that can turn to Derrick White as their 5th option on the court, is not one to mess around with. Celtics take down Cleveland 120-113.
There was another ejection last night, with Jokic getting tossed in the first half of the Nuggets Bulls matchup in Chicago. This ref decided he would be the star tonight felt the strange urge to asset himself and toss Joker, despite Bulls fans pleading to let the 2 time MVP stay. Even without their star, the Nuggets held on for an easy 114-106 Win.
Lastly, in a game that no one saw, the Clippers got 31 from Kawhi Leonard to beat the Sacramento Kings 119-99.
Have a great Wednesday, one more sleep until we get Football back.
