NCAA Final Value Check: UCONN vs SDSU

After a thrilling Saturday night, we are left with Monday's Final between San Diego State and UConn. As has been the case throughout this whole tournament, these teams took wildly different paths in their Semi-final game, but both squads stand just 40 minutes away from cutting down the nets. The Aztecs were down big to FAU, and once again fought back behind great defense and clutch shot making, particularly during the games final sequence. With the clock winding down, Brian Dutcher trusted his defense to get one final stop, and the Aztecs came through, leading to Lamont Butler’s iconic buzzer beater that will go down in NCAA tournament galore. Their opponent tonight did not have to break that type of sweat, nor have they all tournament long. Add Miami to the list of Connecticut's opponents that have gotten demolished by double digits, in a drubbing that wasn’t even as close as the 13 point spread indicates.

In search of its 5th Men's Basketball title in school history, UCONN rightfully enters the day as a 7 point favorite. If SDSU can manage to keep the game tight, the pressure will certainly ramp up on a team that has yet to be tested this month. The key matchup will go down in the paint, between the unstoppable Adama Sanogo and MWC DPOY Nathan Mensah. We’ll see if Mensah can be the answer that no team has had to this point in the dance. The Aztecs will need to slow the game down to a rock fight, and hope Uconn shooters have an off night. UConn bettors are currently sitting on $100 championship futures that are worth $7,856, though this team has shown no weaknesses nor reasons why they won’t finish the job. The wise move would be for SDSU bettors to cash in now on this incredible run that very few saw coming. If you were one of those visionaries, your $100 future is valued at $2,160 - a great return before the clock ultimately strikes midnight.

If you are going to let it ride either way, you should at least be in for a thriller tonight. UConn might be the better team, but I do think the Aztecs match up far better than any prior UConn opponents that have served as nothing but gym floor mops. They have the size to matchup, the athleticism to defend, and the experience to remain composed. They also have proven to not get rattled despite numerous second half deficits. I'll take the 7, but I like Dan Hurley and the UConn Huskies to cut down the nets.
