If you watched a shred of basketball this postseason, it is pretty obvious that the right team took home the Larry O’Brien trophy. The Denver Nuggets steamrolled through this postseason, dropping only 4 games en route to their first championship in franchise history. As painful as it is to admit it as a Celtics fan, Boston would have been exposed in this series, much like Phoenix, LA, and Miami were before them.
The Joker
There is simply no answer for Nikola Jokic, the best player in the world who adds a Finals MVP to his growing trophy case. The two-time regular season MVP was dominant against a tough Heat team who threw everything they had at the big man. On top of his on-court greatness, he seems to be such a great dude, as he spent the aftermath of last night congratulating each Heat player individually before even considering celebrating his incredible accomplishment.
The Best Team All Year
Denver might have been the most under looked #1 seed in NBA playoff history. For months, we were told that Jokic could not carry a team to a title, and that Lebron, Steph or the newly formed combo of Durant and Booker would take over come playoff time. Once either of those teams emerged, they would have Boston or Milwaukee to deal with. Despite the noise, Denver was stayed consistent, and held down the West all year. Come playoff time, they managed to turn it up a couple of notches, and never came close to facing an elimination game with their longest series going 6.
Nuggets backers watched their bet value go up and to the right all year long. The team added depth at the trade deadline, and had younger players emerge to reinforce a team that had been preparing for this moment for a few years. Jokic and Murray are as good of a combo as this league has to offer, and will not be going anywhere for years to come. Aaron Gordon and MPJ are great third and fourth options, and any number of role players can step up and help this team when their number is called. Jokic makes it easy for everyone around him, attracting so much attention and being able to see the floor better than any big man has before.
Time to Cash IN
As Nuggets bettors collect their futures, some have already started to look towards next season, where Denver will likely enter the race as favorites to go back to back. With the roster constructed how it is, and Jokic continuing to dominate, there is no reason why not to get on board yet again. It will be tough to see anyone in either conference knock this team off the mountain. For now, congrats to Denver on a well deserved NBA title, and congrats to Nuggets futures bettors who saw their $100 bets cash in for $1500.
