The Orlando Magic have made a big decision following their Game 7 loss, parting ways with head coach Jamahl Mosley after blowing a 3-1 series lead to the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons saw their $100 preseason futures bet value drop as low as $97 during this series a number you’d have to go all the way back to October to find as they exceeded expectations all year. The day after the Game 7 win, it is now back up to being valued at $280.

Just days ago, Orlando looked like a team on the rise, sitting one win away from advancing and continuing what had been a promising season. Instead, everything unraveled. The Magic dropped three straight games, capped off by a disappointing Game 7 performance that raised serious questions about late-game execution, adjustments, and overall composure.

Mosley, who had been credited with helping develop the young core and establishing a defensive identity, now finds himself out of a job. It’s a tough reality, but in today’s NBA, blowing a 3-1 lead, especially for a team in control of the series, often leads to major consequences. Fair or not, coaches are usually the first to take the fall. Mosley successfully rebuilt the Magic, but it was clear he wasn’t going to be the guy to get them over the hump.

From a basketball standpoint, the collapse exposed real issues. The offense stagnated late in games, rotations became questionable, and the team struggled to respond once momentum shifted. Game 6 in particular, in which the Magic blew a 24-point lead, and scored a total of 19 points in the 2nd half. For a young group, those moments are part of the learning curve, but the organization clearly felt a different voice was needed moving forward.

Now the focus shifts to what’s next. The Magic still have a talented roster and a foundation to build on, but this decision signals urgency. The Magic will likely be going after a proven coach, and it is rumoured that Billy Donovan is at the top of their list.
