Who needs the Pro Bowl when we have the Puppy Bowl. First airing on February 6, 2005, the annual event has become a beloved tradition, and now, 21 years later, it remains stronger than ever.

This year’s Puppy Bowl will feature 150 dogs representing 72 different animal shelters, all competing on one of the most heartwarming stages in sports-adjacent television. Adding to the excitement, the 2026 edition will introduce a first-ever special game dedicated to senior dogs, highlighting older pets who are often overlooked for adoption.

Beyond the entertainment value, the Puppy Bowl serves a meaningful purpose. The event actively promotes animal adoption and raises awareness for the thousands of pets currently living in shelters. In recent years, adoption rates have declined, leaving many animals without permanent homes and the opportunities they deserve for what is called life.

The Puppy Bowl encourages viewers to consider adopting rather than shopping for pets, reminding audiences that shelters are filled with animals eager for companionship and care.

Fans can tune in to Animal Planet at 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 8, ahead of the Super Bowl, to catch all the action. As always, it will be Team Ruff versus Team Fluff, with bragging rights on the line.
