After a thrilling Players Championship, the PGA Tour Florida swing continues in Tampa, with the Valspar Championship. It is a pretty loaded field heading to Innisbrook, as guys are ramping up their prep for Augusta. This event is generally the last one a lot of top guys will play before the Masters, which makes it an important tournament to ensure your game is in tip-top form.
Horse for the Course
Amongst the big names in the field this week are JT, Spieth, Finau and Xander. However, there is one name I have my eyes on above the rest, and that is Sam Burns. If there was ever a horse for the course, it is Burns who has claimed 2 of his 5 PGA Tour victories in this very event. With back to back victories in 2021 and 2022, Burns slumped his way to a 6th place finish here a year ago. This course clearly fits his eye, and with his game trending in the right direction, it is tough to envision him not competing for another title. At +1400, I see good value on a proven winner, and a top 20 player in the world.
Other Names to Watch
Two other names I like this week are Brian Harman and Cameron Young. Harman sits at +2200, and is playing great golf. The Champion golfer of the year has stayed in peak form since his dominant performance at the Open, and added a Ryder Cup team to his resume. He has enjoyed a few laps around this track as well with a T5 in 2022.
While Young has yet to enjoy much success here, his game is similar to that of Burns, which makes him primed to breakthrough on this track. Very few players can hit long irons more accurately than Young, which will be paramount with the length and small greens of this golf course. While it usually comes down to putting for this guy, I am banking on him being due to roll some in at +2800.
Go Low
So those are my three names this week, Burns, Harman, and Young. I’ll be sprinkling on each player to win, and also finish Top 5. Hopefully they can all have a strong week, and get in contention beginning tomorrow afternoon. Enjoy the golf!
