All signs point to a firework display of offense in Detroit on Sunday, when the Lions host the Vikings.
Jared Goff has absolutely been on fire at home this year. He is averaging 269.6 passing yards and 2 touchdowns a game, in seven games. The Lions are averaging 31 ppg in those 7 games as well. Goff was a cool 25 for 41 with 277 passing yards and 1 touchdown in the week 3 meeting in Minnesota. The Lions' offense has only gotten better, and the Vikings' defense has probably gotten worse. They are giving up 30 ppg over the last 4.
D’Andre Swift had 7 carries for 31 yards, and 3 receptions for 15 in the week 3 matchup on a 41% snap share as he left the game and went on to miss 3 games and has been trying to get back in the groove since. It looks like he may have taken things over with his showing last week against the Jags. He did only play 51% of the snaps, but it was his skills on display that has us thinking he is back to form. 14 carries and 6 targets last week; There is no reason we shouldn’t see that and more in Week 14. This makes Jamal Williams even tougher, he just loses some of the volume he was getting before. Always a goal-line threat and I imagine a chance or two here.
Josh Reynolds played 79% of the snaps in the first matchup and had 6 catches for 96 yards. He went on to miss some time and the last two weeks have found his way back into things with a 79% snap share in Week 13. He and Goff have a good connection from their Rams days, and it seems to be on display when Reynolds is healthy.
DJ Chark had a good week last week, as the rookie Jameson Williams came on the scene but only saw the field for 11% of the plays. Chark seems to be the one who would miss out on playing time as Williams gets more reps but that remains to be seen.
Amon-Ra St Brown is a beast and had 6 for 73 in Week 3. He will be fed in week 14 per usual.
The Vikings should be able to score some points, but the much-improved Lions defense and the blitz pressure they bring may make things tougher on Cousins. He had no problem in week 3 going for 260 yards and 2 TDs.
Cousins will look to get the ball out of his hands quickly which should involve Adam Thielen who had 6 for 61 and a touchdown in the first matchup. Also bodes well for tight end TJ Hockenson as the Lions are one of the worst defenses against tight ends. The Lions have been pretty good against the run but the Vikings will look to feed Cook 15 to 18 times I am sure.
Justin Jefferson had a tough first matchup but he is Justin Jefferson. Imagine they make sure he is involved.
