Week 2 Fantasy Flames quarterback: Jayden Daniels vs. Giants

Week 2 rankings: QB | RB | WR | TE
Fantasy Forum: Ask Brad

Each week, the Noise highlights under-started names who he believes are destined to torch the competition. To qualify, each player must have started in fewer than 60 percent of Yahoo leagues. Speaking as an accountability advocate, I will post results, whether genius or moronic, the following week. Scoring thresholds (0.5 PPR) – QB: 18 fantasy points; RB: 12 fantasy points (10 for shockers); WR: 11 fantasy points; TE: 10 fantasy points.

Jayden Daniels, Commanders

Way too many fantasy managers expressed skittishness toward Daniels, an uneasiness on par with having to endure Aaron Rodgers’ new self-indulgent Netflix series in its entirety. Ayahuasca for everyone!

For the unhesitant in attendance, Daniels points rained down in Week 1. Though his passing rawness was on full display — he finished the week QB18 in adjusted completion percentage, according to Pro Football Focus, and he totaled a measly 5.5 aDot — the rookie’s Lamar Jackson-like rushing ability was difficult for Tampa Bay to contain. As a result, Daniels called his own number 16 times, rushing for 88 yards and two touchdowns. He added 184 passing yards with no TDs. Overall, his 28.2 fantasy points ranked No. 3 at the position.

Most importantly to those who steadily worry about the unforgiving injury imp, the LSU product tumbled forward, avoided hard contact and remained upright. Though his self-protective maneuvers are a work in progress, his effort in actually employing them showed a clear willingness to stave off a setback.

This week, he is blessed with a matchup against the miniaturized Giants, who are coming off a Week 1 clobbering by Sam Darnold and the Vikings. No question, Daniels is a top-five QB play. New York’s predictably rancid secondary surrendered 8.7 yards per attempt, 208 yards and two TDs to Darnold last Sunday. Mix in Washington’s equally horrendous defense, and Daniels could meet or exceed what was achieved in his NFL debut.

Daniels is this year’s Justin Fields. Start playing the rookie sensation with supreme confidence.

Fearless Forecast: 193 passing yards, 1 passing touchdown, 13 carries, 57 rushing yards, 1 rushing touchdown, 25.4 fantasy points.

Week 2 Bonus Flame

Justin Herbert, Chargers

Derek Carr, long perceived to be an El Camino on blocks, declawed the Panthers in Week 1, even with Chris Olave barely playing a factor. His dissection of Carolina’s defense presents an attractive case for Herbert. In total, Carr threw for 200 yards and three TDs. He also compiled a pinpoint 82.6% completion rate.

The Lightning Bolt didn’t exactly trigger a box-score fire in Week 1 against the Raiders. In Greg Roman’s generally conservative scheme, Herbert completed 17 of 26 passes for 144 yards and a TD. He also tacked on six rushing yards.

Still, knowing the coverage incompetence of Carolina defensive backs Jaycee Horn, Michael Jackson and Troy Hill, Herbert is worth your consideration — especially if you’re a Jordan Love owner already on full tilt.

Fearless Forecast: 223 passing yards, 2 passing touchdown, 0 interceptions, 11 rushing yards, 18.2 fantasy points.

Season record: 1-1
