Value of a $100 bet on each team the region over the course of the 2022-23 season

There is no better sporting event on the calendar than March Madness and after a long and cold winter, it has finally arrived. The 68 team single elimination tournament also happens to be the perfect use case for WagerWire, Never before has one been able to trade in and out of their positions during this marvelous tournament. Once WagerWire goes live, why not pick a few final 4 teams, and sell before the clock strikes midnight on them? Why sit around and wait for your bracket to bust, when you can buy and sell positions throughout the tournament?

West Region

In a season that has been volatile and wide open, this side of the bracket encompasses just that. #1 seed Kansas has looked dominant at times, only to get run out of the gym twice in a row against Texas. With Bill Self MIA, this team is no sure thing to make a deep run, with Arkansas and potentially UCONN awaiting in rounds 2 and 3.

While I do think they get to the Sweet 16, UCONN has NBA size, and the shooting to take down anyone. The lower half of the draw features two powerhouse teams with UCLA and Gonzaga. The Bruins are currently the Co-favorites in Vegas to win this region at 3.3/1 with KU. Drew Timme and Gonzaga are not far behind at 4/1.

There is also plenty of danger lurking amongst the lower seeds, as the Razorbacks (20/1) have the talent to make a run. Illinois and Northwestern are frisky Big10 teams, and Rick Pitino brings 13th seeded Iona (120/1) to the dance after running through conference play all year.

While I’ll be rooting to chaos, the smart money is to back one of the top 4 seeds in this region. Who of those 4, is anybody’s guess. UCLA looked like the best team in the country for a stretch, but lost its third best player in the last game of the regular season. They will rely heavily on Campbell and Jaquez, who will have to carry them. They could see a Gonzaga team in the round of 8, that has really rounded into form in Drew Timme’s 8th year in school.

We know Kansas has the ability to cut down the nets, but the team I have my eye on is Connecticut. Maybe it is an East Coast Bias, but the Huskies are tough, big, and can shoot the ball. I love how they matchup with Kansas in a potential elite 8 round, and I have too much trouble picking between UCLA and Gonzaga. For that reason, I am backing Danny Hurley and UCONN at 5/1 to return to glory and another Final 4.
